VISUAL PORTFOLIO

When I was 3, I picked up a pen for the first time to start drawing, and I haven't stopped since. It has consumed my life in the best way. I've been fortunate enough to turn my passion into a career, becoming a professional Freelance Illustrator in 2015. Please take a look at some of my illustrations to get a better idea of the type of work I do. If you’d like to learn more about my artwork or a specific piece, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

ABOUT MY WORK

Having an applied context or purpose behind my work gives me guidance. This is why I love narrative-based illustration. I've worked on comics, zines, children's books and personal paintings that all depict various stories and characters. My research takes many different forms: drawing from my surroundings, taking photographs, reading books, watching movies or looking at the work of other artists. My work is all about storytelling.

STORYTELLING

I have worked on a range of projects throughout the years. Some of these were commissioned, while others were my own passion pursuits. I've created illustrations for the Shoreline of Infinity Magazine, the CHIP Collective, NinetyFour Magazine and the Edinburgh University Science Magazine. I've worked with poets such as Russell Jones and Hugh McMillan to bring their words to life. I've also written, illustrated and published my own children's book called 'The Wizard and the Hat'.

CHARACTER ILLUSTRATION

Figurative work has always interested me the most. My paintings are filled with people and animals. I often depict people in my work and have worked on a variety of projects, including: a re-interpretation of the 12 Greek Gods of Olympus, Dungeons & Dragons Characters, Invisibobble Packaging (Lisa & Lena Collection) and personal portraits for clients.

SHONA: THE MUSICAL COSTUMES

I was commissioned to work on the costume designs for 'Shona: The Musical', a current project in development created by Neo Vilakazi. Working on this costume book helped me expand my knowledge of South African patterns and customs. I loved working on this project and  bringing the director's vision to paper. If you have a project in mind that you would like me to tackle, feel free to contact me.

WORKING WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH

My artwork has been used by The University of Edinburgh for various purposes. I worked with the School of Engineering on artwork for the 'Scotland in Space' and 'Doing Engineering' projects, with the Communications & Marketing team on illustrations for the Undergraduate Prospectus (2020 Entry) and on magnet, print and metal plate designs for the Gift Shop & Visitor Centre.

ENVIRONMENTS & COMIC WORK

Below you will find a selection of work featuring landscape illustration and comic work. Some of the comic pages were drawn for a mobile game called 'Heroes & Villains' by AntiGen Games. I enjoy experimenting with my panel composition and have been drawing comics for many years.

OBSERVING THE WORLD

Observational drawing has helped me expand my art skills over time. I've gone to life drawing classes, drawn in cafes and pubs, sketched in art galleries, zoos and medical museums and even travelled to other countries with my sketchbooks. You can find a selection of sketches from my journals and sketchbooks below.
